Bentley Revives the Supersports: A 657-HP, Rear-Drive Performance Icon

12

Bentley has resurrected the legendary “Supersports” nameplate, first applied in 1925 to its 4½ Litre chassis – a car that broke the 100 mph barrier and cemented Bentley’s racing pedigree. Now, a century later, the Supersports returns as a high-performance, rear-wheel-drive variant of the Continental GT, designed for uncompromising driving engagement.

A Return to Raw Power

The new Continental GT Supersports delivers 657 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque from a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. Unlike many modern Bentleys, this model eschews hybrid assistance, prioritizing pure combustion power and a lighter curb weight. Paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel drive, it accelerates to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 192 mph.

Stripped for Performance

Bentley has prioritized weight reduction, making this the lightest Continental GT to date at just under 4,409 pounds – over 1,000 pounds lighter than other variants. The rear seats have been removed entirely, along with rear audio and some sound insulation, further minimizing mass. An electronic limited-slip differential, widened rear track, and rear-wheel steering enhance handling precision.

Cutting-Edge Chassis Technology

The Supersports features a 48-volt electronic anti-roll system that reacts in 0.3 seconds to eliminate body roll. Massive 10-piston calipers with 440-mm Carbon-Silicon-Carbide brakes up front and four-piston calipers with 410-mm discs in the rear provide exceptional stopping power. Three drive modes – Touring, Bentley, and Sport – adjust suspension, throttle response, and chassis settings for varying conditions.

Aggressive Aerodynamics and Styling

Visually, the Supersports stands out with a larger front splitter, dive planes, a fixed rear spoiler generating 661 pounds of downforce, and unique 22-inch forged wheels developed with Manthey Racing. Carbon fiber components further reduce weight while enhancing aerodynamics.

Driver-Focused Interior

The interior is stripped of rear seats and features lightweight, highly bolstered bucket seats. Buyers can customize interiors with monotone, dual-tone, or tri-tone leather, Dinamica, and carbon fiber accents. The titanium Akrapovic exhaust system is audible due to reduced sound insulation.

Limited Production

Bentley will produce only 500 examples of the Supersports, each individually numbered. Order books open in March 2026, with production commencing later that year. Pricing will exceed the base Continental GT, which starts around $285,000.

The Supersports represents a return to Bentley’s more extreme past, combining luxury with uncompromising performance. As Chairman and CEO Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser states, “This is the first project developed from start to finish since I joined Bentley Motors, and I’m proud of our team and the speed at which we’ve created a car so different from the GT on which it’s based.”
