Huawei, in partnership with SAIC Motor, has officially revealed the Saic Z7T – a new station wagon and the first of its kind under their joint HIMA (Huawei Intelligent Mobility Alliance) brand. The vehicle, a shooting brake variant of the existing Saic Z7 sedan, marks a key expansion in HIMA’s product lineup. Further details, including pricing and full specifications, are set to be announced later in March.
Design and Exterior Features
The Saic Z7T sports a distinctive mountain green exterior finish with concealed door handles and vibrant red brake calipers. Unlike the sedan version, the rear of the Z7T has been extensively reworked to accommodate the station wagon body style. The vehicle features a sleek, sloping roofline and a continuous taillight design that stretches across the rear.
Up front, the Z7T is expected to retain the advanced headlight system from the Saic Z7, utilizing 408 laser-emitting points for enhanced visibility. A roof-mounted lidar sensor confirms the integration of Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4.0 advanced driving system, positioning the Z7T as a high-tech offering in its segment.
Powertrain and Pricing Expectations
While official powertrain specifications remain undisclosed, industry reports suggest the Saic Z7T will be a fully electric vehicle (BEV). Rumors from Chinese news outlet Mydrivers indicate potential configurations with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), powered by either 80 kWh or 100 kWh battery packs.
Pricing is currently unconfirmed, but given the Saic Z7’s current positioning in the mid-to-large sedan category, estimates range from 250,000 to 350,000 yuan (approximately $36,200 to $50,700 USD).
HIMA’s Expanding Portfolio
The Saic Z7T is the latest addition to HIMA’s growing portfolio, which currently comprises five brands: Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro, and now Saic. These brands collectively cover a price spectrum from 200,000 to 1.5 million yuan ($29,000 to $217,000 USD).
SAIC’s brand within HIMA is positioned as “Stylish, Technologically Advanced, Trustworthy, and Accessible,” with the Saic H5 mid-size SUV as its debut model. The Saic Z7, and now the Z7T, represent further expansion of this partnership into new vehicle segments.
The Saic Z7T’s release showcases the accelerating pace of collaboration between tech giants like Huawei and established automakers like SAIC. This partnership underscores the industry-wide shift towards electric vehicles and advanced driving systems. The station wagon format, while less common in the EV space, signals a willingness to diversify beyond traditional sedan and SUV offerings.
