Leapmotor Launches A10 EV SUV: Affordable Tech and Long Range

16

Leapmotor has unveiled its A10 (internationally marketed as B03X) electric SUV, marking a new entry in the competitive compact EV segment. The vehicle starts at $9,500 USD, making it one of the most affordable electric SUVs currently available. The launch follows its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show last year, signaling Leapmotor’s expansion into international markets.

Key Features and Pricing

The A10 comes in four variants, each offering a different balance of features and range:

  • 403 Edition: $9,500 USD (65,800 yuan)
  • 403 Edition with ADS: $10,100 USD (69,800 yuan) – includes advanced driver-assistance systems.
  • 505 Edition: $11,100 USD (76,800 yuan) – extended range option.
  • 505 Edition with LiDAR: $12,600 USD (86,800 yuan) – top-tier model with full autonomous driving capabilities.

These prices position the A10 as a direct competitor to other budget-friendly EVs, especially in emerging markets.

Design and Interior

Leapmotor describes the A10’s aesthetic as “Tech Natural Aesthetics 2.0,” featuring distinctive “Smiling headlights” and a trapezoidal front bumper. The SUV comes in six color options, including Seaweed Green and Morgan Pink.

Inside, the A10 boasts a modern cabin with an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 14.6-inch central touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm SA8295 chip with Qwen’s AI assistant. The vehicle also features a customizable floating IP BAR, which can be equipped with ambient lighting, a fragrance dispenser, or other practical accessories.

Performance and Range

The A10 is powered by a single electric motor, available in two power outputs: 94 hp or 121 hp. Peak torque is consistent at 150 Nm. Range options are 403km and 505km (CLTC standard) depending on the chosen battery pack (39.8kWh or 53kWh). The vehicle supports fast charging, adding 50% charge in around 16 minutes.

Safety and Technology

Leapmotor has equipped the A10 with advanced safety features, including high-strength aerospace-grade steel in critical areas. The LiDAR-equipped variant offers “parking space to parking space” assisted driving, including City NAP, Highway Navigation, and Memory Parking.

Why this matters: Leapmotor’s A10 represents a significant step towards making electric mobility more accessible. The combination of affordable pricing, advanced technology (including LiDAR in higher trims), and a respectable range could disrupt the EV market, particularly in price-sensitive regions. The launch highlights the increasing competition in the EV space, where manufacturers are racing to offer compelling features at lower price points.
