Mercedes-Benz VLE: The £110K Self-Parking Luxury Van Arrives March 10

Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the all-new VLE – a high-end electric van aimed at the luxury MPV market – on March 10. With a starting price exceeding £90,000 and rising to over £100,000 for premium trims, the VLE isn’t just transportation; it’s a mobile boardroom designed for effortless convenience.

Autonomous Parking and Advanced Maneuverability

The VLE boasts a fully-autonomous parking assistant, enabling it to navigate even tight spaces without driver input. Testing by Auto Express confirmed the system’s speed and accuracy, quickly identifying spots and aligning the vehicle seamlessly. Additionally, the van features rear-wheel steering with a seven-degree angle – reducing its turning radius to just 10.9 meters, comparable to a compact sedan. This is paired with a reversing assistant, allowing the vehicle to rewind steering inputs for easy escape from dead ends.

Electric Power and Extended Range

The VLE will be the first model built on Mercedes’ new VAN.EA platform, prioritizing all-electric architecture. It features a usable 115kWh battery, an increase of 25kWh over the previous EQV, and is expected to deliver over 300 miles of range. Long-distance tests from Stuttgart to Rome confirmed minimal charging stops (two 15-minute intervals) over a 683-mile route. The platform also supports an 800V electrical system for up to 320kW fast charging.

Design and Interior Tech

Styling cues align with the latest Mercedes GLC and CLA models, including three-pointed-star daytime running lights and a large illuminated grille. Aerodynamic efficiency has been a priority, validated through wind tunnel testing. Inside, the VLE will feature a full-width screen running the MB.OS infotainment system, alongside Level 2 automation with plans for Level 3 by the end of the decade. Mercedes intends to maintain constant connectivity via over-the-air updates.

Market Positioning and Future Plans

The VLE is designed to compete in the luxury MPV segment with models like the Lexus LM, Volvo EM90, and Zeekr 009. Mercedes will also offer a combustion engine version later, built on the VAN.CA platform. The VLE is positioned as an “E-Class” equivalent for MPVs, with plans for a larger “VLS” model aimed at ultra-luxury applications.

The VLE signals Mercedes’ commitment to redefining the luxury van market, blending high-tech convenience with premium comfort and performance. This move underscores the growing demand for upscale, flexible transportation solutions.
