Toyota HiLux “Revo to Travo” Conversion Kit Emerges in Thailand

A Thai entrepreneur is already offering a conversion kit to transform older Toyota HiLux models into the appearance of the recently unveiled new generation. The project, documented on Facebook by Pasit Reddevill, involves meticulously fabricated body panels and lighting to replicate the look of the updated ute – locally known as the HiLux Travo.

The Conversion Process

Images circulating online show an outgoing HiLux Revo (the previous generation in Thailand) fitted with the front and rear styling elements of the new model. The conversion includes the hood, tailgate, headlights, and taillights, all custom-made to mimic the updated design. The entrepreneur behind the kit is associated with Bangsaen-Shop, a Thai business specializing in Toyota 4×4 accessories.

Why Now? Shared Underpinnings

The ease with which this conversion is possible stems from the fact that the new HiLux isn’t a complete redesign. The 2024 model retains the same IMV ladder-frame chassis introduced in 2004, and even shares roof panels, door skins, and window glass with its predecessor. The engine, a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel, carries over unchanged. The most significant updates are concentrated in the interior and exterior styling.

Limited Details, Rising Demand

Pricing for the conversion kit has not yet been announced. The entrepreneur has indicated that some parts are still being finalized. Demand for the kit remains unconfirmed, but the project highlights a straightforward path to updating the appearance of older HiLux models without the cost of a full vehicle replacement.

The availability of such a conversion underscores how incremental the changes are between the older and newer HiLux generations. While the new model offers interior enhancements and updated aesthetics, the core mechanical components remain largely unchanged, making this type of aftermarket upgrade both feasible and potentially appealing to budget-conscious owners.
