Volkswagen has taken the wraps off its latest electric vehicle offering for the Chinese market: the ID. UNYX 08. This stylish five-meter long SUV boasts a futuristic design heavily inspired by the ID. EVO concept car and promises an impressive range exceeding 700 kilometers (435 miles).
The ID. UNYX 08 turns heads with its sleek, modern aesthetic. The front end is dominated by a completely enclosed grille, punctuated by slim, upward-sweeping headlights framing the prominent Volkswagen badge. A unique touch comes from the blacked-out A-pillars which create an illusion of a floating roof, further emphasized by roof rails and concealed door handles.
Side profile highlights include dense-spoke wheels and a sloping roofline that contributes to a streamlined silhouette. At the rear, slender taillights and a lighted Volkswagen logo add visual flair. Notably, there are optional upgrades including larger wheels, colored brake calipers, and panoramic sunroof panels for added customization.
Measuring in at 5 meters long, with a width of 1.954 meters and a height of 1.672 to 1.688 meters, the ID. UNYX 08 offers generous interior space within its five-seat cabin. Volkswagen emphasizes an eco-conscious design approach by incorporating sustainably sourced materials throughout the wraparound cockpit, creating a comfortable and environmentally friendly atmosphere. Notably, various “ecological expansion interfaces” are strategically placed throughout the cabin suggesting potential for modular customization and future technology integration.
Powertrain options include both single-motor and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor version delivers 230 kW of power, while the dual-motor setup utilizes front (140 kW) and rear (230 kW) motors for enhanced performance. Both variants are equipped with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs sourced from CATL, although specific capacity figures remain undisclosed. Despite this, Volkswagen boasts a certified range exceeding 700 kilometers according to the CLTC test cycle.
Beyond its impressive range and powertrain options, the ID. UNYX 08 offers advanced driver assistance features reaching L2++ capability. This includes functionalities like “parking spot to parking spot” maneuvering on both urban and highway roads, demonstrating Volkswagen’s commitment to intelligent driving technologies. Furthermore, over-the-air (OTA) updates ensure the vehicle software remains up-to-date, while an integrated large language model powers a sophisticated AI assistant for enhanced in-car interaction.
The ID. UNYX 08 joins Volkswagen Anhui’s expanding lineup of electric vehicles, which currently includes the upcoming ID. UNYX 06 (a compact SUV) and ID. UNYX 07 sedan. Positioned within the mid- to large-size EV segment, the ID. UNYX 08 demonstrates Volkswagen’s ambitious strategy to capture a significant share of China’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market.
