Great Wall Motors’ Wey brand has launched the V9X, a large-format SUV that marks the first vehicle built on the company’s new GWM One platform. The V9X features a sophisticated 2.0T plug-in hybrid powertrain, promising both performance and significant electric range – up to 363km (225 miles) according to official filings. This launch signals a shift towards more advanced hybrid technology in the Chinese automotive market, where demand for efficient yet powerful vehicles is rising.
Design and Exterior Features
The V9X introduces a bold new design direction for Wey, highlighted by a closed front grille dominated by an illuminated star-ring light strip. This element connects seamlessly to the headlight assemblies, creating a wider, more aggressive stance. A prominent LiDAR sensor is integrated into the front, confirming the inclusion of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The front bumper incorporates an active grille with integrated blue accent lights for both driving assistance and turn signals.
From the side, the SUV utilizes dual waistlines to visually extend its length, complemented by a two-tone color scheme and detailed spoke wheels. At the rear, through-type oval taillights echo the blue accent lighting from the front, creating a cohesive design language.
Interior and Comfort
Inside, the V9X offers a modern, tech-focused cabin. A narrow, full-LCD instrument cluster pairs with a large central touchscreen, and an additional display for the front passenger. The air vents are integrated into a wraparound design, enhancing the sense of spaciousness.
The vehicle is configured with a luxurious 2+2+2 six-seat layout. Second-row passengers benefit from reclining seats and integrated entertainment screens, along with wireless charging capabilities in both the front and rear rows. Ambient lighting around the folding screens adds to the premium feel.
Performance and Specifications
The Wey V9X’s dimensions are 5299mm (length), 2025mm (width), and 1825mm (height), with a wheelbase of 3150mm. The 2.0T plug-in hybrid engine produces 175kW (234hp). Acceleration is impressive, with 0-100km/h (0-62mph) times of 4.4 seconds in electric mode and 4.7 seconds in hybrid mode. The top speed is limited to 210km/h (130mph).
The V9X is built on an 800V hybrid architecture with 6C hybrid batteries, allowing for over 400km (249 miles) of pure electric range and the ability to add 200km (124 miles) of range with just five minutes of fast charging.
The Wey V9X represents a significant step forward for Great Wall Motors, showcasing its commitment to advanced hybrid technology and premium SUV design. The extended electric range, coupled with high performance, positions the V9X as a competitive offering in the rapidly evolving Chinese automotive landscape.
