BMW Z4 Production Ends: Final Edition Marks the Roadster’s Farewell

BMW will discontinue its Z4 two-seat roadster in March 2026 after a 24-year production run. To commemorate the end of an era, the automaker is releasing a limited ‘Final Edition’ model starting in January. This marks the last opportunity to purchase a new Z4 before production ceases, with BMW hinting that the vehicle “may well become a collectors’ item” due to its exclusivity.

Cosmetic Enhancements, Unchanged Performance

The Final Edition package focuses solely on aesthetic upgrades. The exterior boasts an exclusive Frozen Matt Black paint finish complemented by gloss black trim and striking red brake calipers. Inside, the cabin receives unique red stitching across the steering wheel, dashboard, center console, doors, and sport seats – upholstered in a combination of leather and Alcantara. Unique “Z4 Final Edition” sill plates further distinguish the model.

Engine Options Remain Consistent

Performance remains unchanged, with the Final Edition available with two engine options:
– The turbocharged four-cylinder sDrive20i delivers 194bhp to the rear wheels.
– The high-performance M40i retains its turbocharged straight-six engine, producing 335bhp.

Pricing for the Final Edition is expected to exceed the current Z4 M40i’s £59,365 price tag, reflecting its collectible status.

The End of a Lineage

BMW has no immediate plans to replace the Z4, though it continues to offer convertibles in the 4 and 8 Series ranges. This isn’t the first time BMW has paused roadster production; after the 507 ended in 1957, it took nearly three decades for the Z series to emerge. The Z4’s discontinuation signals a shift in BMW’s lineup, prioritizing other vehicle segments over the traditional two-seat roadster.

The Z4 Final Edition provides a final opportunity to own a piece of BMW’s roadster history before the model fades into automotive nostalgia.
