Toyota Expands EV Lineup in Australia with High-Performance bZ4X Touring

21

Toyota Australia has officially announced the pricing and specifications for the 2026 bZ4X Touring, a new high-riding, wagon-style electric crossover designed to sit at the top of the bZ4X range. Set to begin deliveries in May, the Touring model targets drivers seeking a blend of increased utility and enhanced performance.

Performance and Power Upgrades

The bZ4X Touring distinguishes itself from the standard AWD model through a significant boost in electrical output. By utilizing a more powerful dual-motor drivetrain, the Touring delivers 280kW of system power, up from the 252kW found in the standard version.

This increase in power translates directly to improved driving dynamics:
Acceleration: 0–100km/h in just 4.4 seconds (improving on the standard model by 0.7 seconds).
Driving Feel: The increased output provides a more responsive experience, catering to the growing consumer demand for “performance EVs” that do not sacrifice utility.

Enhanced Utility and Design

While the standard bZ4X is a compact crossover, the Touring variant features an extended body, adding 140mm in length. This structural change is primarily aimed at improving practical usability, specifically by increasing boot capacity from 452L to 500L.

To differentiate its aesthetic, Toyota has equipped the Touring with a rugged, “adventure-ready” trim package, including:
– Unique 20-inch black alloy wheels.
– Front and rear skid plates.
– Ladder-style roof rails.
– Black resin accents on the wheel arches and bonnet.

Range and Charging Capabilities

The bZ4X Touring utilizes the same 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery found in the rest of the lineup. However, due to the increased power output and additional weight, the projected driving range is slightly lower than its siblings.

Metric bZ4X Touring bZ4X AWD (Standard)
Claimed Range (WLTP) 488 km 517 km
DC Fast Charging Up to 150kW Up to 150kW
AC Charging 22kW (Standard) 22kW (Standard)

Note: While the range is slightly reduced, the 150kW DC fast-charging capability ensures that replenishment remains efficient for long-distance travel.

Premium Features and Interior

The Touring is positioned as a premium offering, boasting a high level of standard equipment designed for comfort and connectivity. Key interior highlights include:
Technology: A 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a nine-speaker JBL premium sound system, and a digital rear-view mirror.
Comfort: Dual-zone climate control, eight-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, and a fixed panoramic roof.
Convenience: Dual wireless smartphone chargers and a 1500W inverter.

Buyers can choose between black synthetic leather or a new, exclusive Khaki upholstery.

Pricing and Warranty

The 2026 Toyota bZ4X Touring is priced from $69,990 (plus on-road costs), representing a $2,000 premium over the standard AWD model.

To support the transition to electric motoring, Toyota is offering a choice of incentives through its “Toyota Go” loyalty program:
1. A 12-month/625kWh Chargefox public charging voucher.
2. A complimentary 7kW home charger (excluding installation).

The vehicle is backed by Toyota’s comprehensive warranty package, which includes a five-year unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty and a 10-year service-activated battery warranty, alongside eight years of coverage against battery degradation.

Summary: The bZ4X Touring offers a more powerful and practical alternative to the standard bZ4X, trading a small amount of range for significantly better acceleration and increased cargo space.
