The aftermarket moves fast. Mazda is still stuck in meetings.
Rumors swirl about an official off-road variant for the new CX-5 something to fight Toyota’s Woodland and Subaru’s Wilderness but nothing concrete has landed. Yet. In that silence AutoExe stepped in. Founded by former Mazda factory racer Yojiro Terada the JDM tuner dropped two new kits. One gets muddy. One gets mean.
The Rugged Route
Meet the KM-07 AX Active Xross.
It attacks the lower front bumper first swapping it out for a section with integrated LEDs flanked by an aluminum-looking skid plate. Overfenders snap onto the wheel arches available in matte or gloss black. Around back there is an aluminum-style diffuser doubling as a protection plate plus a matching tailgate trim piece.
Want it to look like a rally car? Sure.
Grab the red or black mud flaps slap the custom hood and door decals on the side and protect those door handles from dings.
The look is functional but mostly it’s about presence.
The Street Option
Then there is the KM-07 regular kit.
Forget mud think speed. This package reads like MazdaSpeed finally decided to kit a CX-5. It pulls everything tight front bumper extension with a loud splitter deep side skirts roof spoiler and a rear bumper wrap that frames those dual tailpipes nicely.
Every bit of it comes in gloss black.
It matches the factory cladding perfectly. Add carbon-finish window visors if you want to dress it up a bit.
What’s next?
Right now this is just skin deep. Styling only.
AutoExe promises “functional parts” are on the drawing board. We’re talking suspension tweaks chassis reinforcements better brakes and new intake or exhaust setups. The full catalog hits Japan this fall.
You can buy these at Mazda dealers in Japan. The rugged AX kit runs about ¥501 710 which clocks out to roughly $3 200 right now. The sporty KM-07 is a touch cheaper at ¥445 060 or around $2 800.
Why wait for the factory to get their act together?
