The lights are going out. For the Fiat 500e at least.
Stellantis Australia says they have sold through nearly all their stock of the electric microcar. Same for the spicy Abarth 500s. It’s almost an empty room now.
This isn’t a full exit from the country though. Just a pause. A deep breath before the next move.
“At this stage, we are not placing additional orders while we evaluate future product options.”
Simple words. Big implication. If you wanted one yesterday, you’re likely out of luck unless you catch a dealer’s leftover 2023 or 2024 model. The locator tool shows four 500es. Nine Abahts. That’s it. Nationwide.
Which cars are actually still being sold by Fiat Australia?
The electric door is closing, but the van garage stays open.
Stellantis separates its brands. Fiat is one. Abarth is two. Fiat Professional is the third. And it’s the only one showing muscle right now.
While passenger cars dry up, the Scudo van arrived. The Ducato keeps rolling in. In fact, Fiat Professional sold 1,541 vehicles last year. All Ducatos. They’ve sold over a thousand vans every year since 2020.
Meanwhile, the passenger car network has shrunk to five dealerships. Down from a broader presence. The old petrol-powered Fiat 500 is also stuck in limbo. Stellantis said back in 2024 they would stop importing combustion versions. Yet here they are. Thirty-one units listed online. One Abarth 694. Ghost inventory.
Sales tell a sad story for the cars.
* 2014: Peak year. 5,758 sold. The Freemont (a Dodge Journey in disguise) and the micro 500 carried the brand.
* 2022: The rock bottom. Just 357 units.
* 2023-2024: A flicker of hope (755 sold) followed by another dip.
* 2024-2025: The 500e brought numbers to 176 deliveries. Good for an EV launch? Maybe. Enough to justify a floodgate opening? Clearly not.
How Fiat’s global strategy impacts Australian buyers
Why the halt? Money? Logic? A lack of options?
The spokesperson didn’t say. They talked about “evaluating opportunities.” That usually means the numbers didn’t pencil out for importing more small cars.
The real issue is geography. And steering wheels.
Stellantis is making Fiat a “core global brand” again. Great. But core brands need products that fit local rules. China builds cheap EVs for brands like Peugeot. Those can come here. Fiat has nothing built in China for export to Australia.
Brazil builds a massive lineup for Fiat. All left-hand drive. Useless to us.
So where does that leave Stellantis Australia? They’re stuck with Europe.
The Fiat 600 (including the Abarth 600 performance EV) looks great on paper. The Grande Panda (hybrid or EV) is cute, tough, and likely appealing. The Grizzly SUV is coming to Europe. But none of these have a confirmed Australia release date. None of them have homologation. None of them have shipping containers booked.
There is also the Topolino. A quadricycle sold in the UK. It won’t work here. Legal hurdles. Safety standards. It’s a dead end for Australian roads.
When will Fiat bring new cars to Australia?
No date. No list. No timeline.
The 500e was slow. Selling 144 units in the first half of 2025 for the whole range (including old stock) confirms the niche appeal. Micro EVs aren’t selling out of the water here yet. People want SUVs. People want utility. Or people don’t trust a small battery to cross state lines without anxiety.
“We remain focused on ensuring the vehicles… meet customers’ expectations.”
Translation: We’re waiting to see if you want more than a 500.
Fiat Professional remains steady. Vans are business tools. You buy them to work. You don’t browse them on Pinterest for aesthetics. The 14 dealer locations for commercial vehicles remain solid.
But for the badge you love? The heritage? The Italian flair? It’s on ice.
The 500 icon is being phased out. Not pulled. Phased out.
Maybe the Fiat 600 comes later. Maybe the Grande Panda. Or maybe Stellantis decides the Australian market isn’t worth the complexity of importing tiny cars that cost a lot to ship.
The stock locator is quiet. The news is quiet.
We just have to wait and see what comes through the door next. If anything does. 🇮🇹⚡🚫
