What makes the GV90 the new flagship?
It arrives weeks before most of us can even finish our morning coffee. The GV90 is coming. It’s the flagship for Genesis. And yes. It wants your attention.
Peter Kronschnabl. Europe MD for the brand. He didn’t mince words. He told Autocar that the GV90 isn’t here to be polite. It is here to push premium credentials to the edge. “You need to show what you cando at the top luxury end.” This is that show.
So. What is the Genesis GV90 doing that the Range Rover isn’t?
Rear-hinged coach doors explained
Look at the rear doors. They hinge forward. Like a Rolls-Royce. Not a metaphor. Actual coach doors.
Kronschnabl calls them a statement. And why not? It’s rare in an SUV. The concept car. The Neolun. It had them. The production model keeps them. Patents show a dual-hinge system. Hinges connect to body and frame. Extra seals. Better insulation. Structural integrity doesn’t just mean strength here. It means quiet.
Is it impractical? Maybe for a narrow London parking spot. But this isn’t for London traffic. This is for arriving.
Inside? It’s vast. Spy shots suggest it outgrows the Kia EV9. Even the Hyundai Ioniq 9. It shares the same underpinnings but wears them like a custom suit. Standard layout? Three rows. Two seats each.
But there is a twist. Korean media saw a prototype. Four seater only. Two opulent thrones in the back. Wood flooring. Abundant quilted leather. If you want Genesis GV90 luxury specs. This is them.
Technology and entertainment features
There is a screen. But not for navigation.
A theatre screen. For in-car entertainment. Kronschnabl says it pairs with top-tier tech and materials to make this SUV the “pinnacle” of the range.
Why bother? Because luxury isn’t just leather anymore. It’s distraction. It’s immersion. The GV90 knows where the market is heading. It doesn’t just seat you. It entertains you.
“You need to show what youcando at the top luxuryend. Thisis the GV90.”
How fast and far can the GV90 go?
Size implies weight. But this is electric. So speed is easy.
- Battery pack: Around 110kWh.
- Range: Over 350 miles.
- Power: Dual motors pushing past 500bhp.
- Drivetrain: Four-wheel drive.
- Charging: Up to 350kW.
It’s a monster on paper. And it should be. It rivals the heavy hitters in the luxury EV segment. The Genesis GV90 range and performance stats put it in serious competition with established giants. No apologies there.
Magma performance division
Wait. There is another car.
The GV60 Magma. It launched right before this big announcement. It has 641bhp. 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds. Top speed of 164 mph.
Kronschnabl revealed this is just the start. A “wider performance programme.” Magma isn’t just a badge. It’s a sub-brand. A rival to Mercedes AMG. And BMW M.
Why two tracks? One for luxury. One for sport. The GV90 handles the velvet rope. The Magma handles the red line.
So. You have coach doors. A cinema. Wood floors. Or you have a 3-second quarter mile. Which Genesis do you choose?
The market hasn’t decided yet. The GV90 makes its point first. Let’s see what the rest do.
